fall sneak peek–gospel of john

This fall, we will begin going through the Gospel of John together. From September until June, we will go straight through the book. I am very eager to get back to preaching straight through one book of the Bible.

We are using John’s stated purpose for the overall theme of the book:

These things I have written to you so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. (John 20:31)

John wants his gospel to foster faith in Christ. It is a strongly evangelistic book. He wrote the book to introduce Jesus to people who don’t know Jesus.

This is the way we should use the book as well. John wrote his book for people just like your friend, neighbor or co-worker who doesn’t know Jesus yet. By focusing our attention on the book this year, this will be a great year to bring someone to church.

So pray for opportunities for this to happen. Pray also for boldness to actually do it. Having people who aren’t Christians become Christian is a key part of our desire for Grace to be a church for Seattle.

As with any book of the Bible, John’s gospel is also intended to bless those of us who already know Jesus. It is my hope that we will have a deeper sense of who Jesus is and a greater experience of the “life” we have in his name.

In preparation for the upcoming ministry year, you can read more here.
